Artist’s Statement
San Francisco Bay Wisdom Log
This series was based on my daily view of the bay and the large ships that sailed by me. The triangle shape of the boats remind of knife blades. Knives are not a negative image for me as they are the symbol of wisdom in Buddhism. The knife is used to cut away ignorance. Making art is another tool for gaining truth about oneself. Making art is not for the faint of heart.
The bay is the body in the titles of these constructions.
These tactile and collaged paintings are on 8″ x 10″ thick paper or wooden panels. Sometimes I write the names of the ships in the paintings.
